Fremont resident, Robert Dale Schatt, 92, died surrounded by his family early Saturday morning, Jan. 31, 2015 at Elmwood of Fremont. Bob was born in Fremont on Dec. 4, 1922 to Walter William and Arvada (Dodway) Schatt. He graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1941 and was the beloved husband of 72 years of Lois (Shilling) and wonderful father to Dennis (Suzanne) Schatt of WI and Sherry (Rick) Roach of Fostoria, grandfather of three, great-grandfather of eight. Bob was an Army veteran, fighting in the South Pacific during WW II. He began his working career at the former Herbrand until its closure; he also was a floor inspector for Chrysler until his retirement in 1980. Bob was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, often serving on its counsel, leading Boy Scouts, making crafts for the Bazaar and working as the church's custodian until he retired in his 80's. He immensely enjoyed working with wood in his spare time, making many lovely things for his family, friends and the church. He was always willing to share his knowledge and patterns. The family respectfully requests no flowers but to send remembrances to St. John's Lutheran Church, the Paralyzed Veterans of America or to the Wounded Warrior Project. Robert is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Donald, Lawrence "Babe" and Ervin. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 10-11 a.m., at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fremont. Graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Robert's son, Dennis, will officiate.
