William Behrens

William Henry Behrens, 60, of Fremont, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015, at his home with his family by his side. Bill was born April 1, 1954, in Fremont, to William and Esther (Meyer) Behrens. He graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1972 and earned an Associate's Degree from Terra State Community College in Industrial/Electrical Engineering. He married Cynthia Evans on April 29, 1978, in Canton, Ohio. He worked at Columbia LNG, Old Fort; Toledo Edison, Davis Besse; and most recently JDRM Engineering, Toledo, where he specialized in lighting design for schools and hospitals. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg Sportsman's Club and Fremont Yacht Club, where he served as Commodore several years. Flying was his passion, with Bill earning his pilot's license in 1973 and becoming a certified flight instructor in 1981. He was an avid boater and water skier on the Sandusky River. Bill also enjoyed woodworking, snow skiing, target shooting and spending time with his many friends. Most of all he enjoyed time with his family, grandson, and his Golden Retriever, Annie. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; son, Andrew (Lauren) Behrens and grandson, Noah of Lake Mohawk, OH; daughter, Tina Behrens of Columbus; sister, Bette (Gary) Kaltenbach of Fremont; brother-in-law, Rick (Rachael) Evans of Columbus; sister-in-law, Debbie Evans; and mother-in-law, Erma Evans both of Canton. Bill has a nephew, Brian Kaltenbach of Fallon, NV; and 3 nieces, Sara Kaltenbach of Fremont, Renee Sobota of Charlotte, NC and Reanna Spencer of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Esther Behrens, and father-in-law, Walter Evans. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Sunday, February 15 at 4:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fremont. Bill's family will receive friends at the church beginning at 2:30 p.m. until the time of the celebration.
