Lulu Ruth Spanfellner of Gibsonburg, died peacefully at her home on Friday, February 20 at 9:21 p.m. surrounded by her family. She was born June 29, 1932 in Riley Township to the late Walton and Helen (Willer) Schwochow. On November 6, 1964 she married Kenneth Spanfellner, who survives. They both brought children into this union and together they raised: Ray Rogers, Karen Rogers, Roy Rogers, Louie Spanfellner, Brenda Spanfellner, Marv Spanfellner, Cindy Rogers, and Marilyn Spanfellner. Born of their union was Herbert Spanfellner. Lulu attended Bettsville schools and was very proud to obtain her GED in 1985. She retired from Atlas Industries in 1990. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church where she previously served on Church Council. She and her husband volunteered for Sandusky County Park District and helped with the early phases of the Creek Bend Farm project. Their favorite activity for the park district was filling water balloons for the annual free day at White Star Park. They were members of SCRAP, and Lulu was a member of the former Sandusky County Sportsman Club Ladies Auxiliary . She volunteered for the Sandusky County Board of Elections, and she also volunteered at Hilfiker Elementary School for several years, where she was affectionately known as "Laminating Lu". Lulu is survived by her siblings: Doris Bickley of Bonita Springs, FL, Alice Jeanette of Fremont, Dale Schwochow of Tiffin, Donna Sandler of Fort Myers, FL, Galen Schwochow of IA, Larry Schwochow of Burgoon. She is also survived by her children, Ray Rogers of Lafayette, LA, Karen (Willie) Toller of Gibsonburg, Roy (Debbie) Rogers of Fremont, Louie Spanfellner of Fremont, Brenda (Roger) Simmons of Fremont, Marv (Joslynn) Spanfellner of Helena, Cindy (Don) Crispen, of Gibsonburg, Marilyn (Don Hahn) Shaw of North Baltimore and Herb (Elena) Spanfellner of Downingtown, PA; 24 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is her close friend Ila Rose Griffin. She was preceded in death by her sons, Arthur and Harry Lee Rogers; brother, Robert Schwochow; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Rogers; and grandson, Christopher Rogers. Memorial contributions can be made to Sandusky County Parks, First English Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. And 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with one hour of visitation being held prior to the service. Rev. Eric Schwochow will officiate. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal love leaves a memory no one can steal
