Rose Mary Nietz, 93, formerly of Gibsonburg passed away on February 21, 2015 at her home in Indiana. Rose Mary was born in Toledo on November 17, 1921 to John and Mary (Gerlach) Powers. In 1939, Rose Mary graduated from Waite High School. She married William Nietz on May 18, 1951 at Good Shepherd Church in Toledo. He passed on January 2, 2011. Rose Mary worked for Chessie System Railroad as a PBX operator and clerk for 15 years, and later for the Toledo 5 Truckstop as a cashier for 9 years, retiring in 1972. Rose Mary was a member as well as treasurer of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Michael's Catholic Church. She was a Friend of Portage Valley and served over 5000 hours as a volunteer there. She was gifted at knitting and crocheting and loved puzzles and as well as playing bunco with her friends for over 40 years. Surviving is daughter, Patricia (Christen) Habegger of Bristol, IN; brother, Thomas Powers of Medina, OH; grandchildren, Stephen (Abigail) Habegger and Elisabeth (Michael) Schulz; and one great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, William P. Nietz, and siblings Richard Powers, Bernard Powers, John Eugene Powers, and John Virgil Powers. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. Funeral Services will be Monday, March 2, 2015, 10:30 a.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Gibsonburg. Father Ted Miller will be officiating. Burial will be at Fort Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg. Contributions in Rose Mary's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the Macula Vision Research Foundation.
