Lifelong Helena resident, Helen M. Hoffman, 89, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family, Sunday, Mar. 29, 2015 at Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont. Born on Sept. 18, 1925 in Helena, she was a daughter of Ara and Hazel (Kuhn) Ernst. As a 1943 graduate of Bradner Schools, Helen worked as a bookkeeper at the former Helena Elevator. On June 11, 1949, she married Wilbur U. Hoffman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Millersville. Living on a farm, she and her husband were devoted to their family, their farm and their church. Wilbur died on Dec. 7, 2007. She was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gibsonburg and its Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Sandusky County Farm Bureau and a member of the Helena Community Volunteer Fire Department, Women's Auxiliary. Helen is survived by children, Susan (Terry) Bolen of Fremont and Dan (Julie) Hoffman of Helena; grandchildren, Marc and Allison Bolen and Andrew and Samantha Hoffman. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings Esther Stearns, Ervin Ernst and John Charles "J.C." Ernst. Family and friends will be welcomed at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services (319 W. Madison St., Gibsonburg, OH) on Tuesday, Mar. 31, 2015, 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 1, 10:30 a.m. Rev. Ted Miller will officiate. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Millersville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
