Louis G. Damschroder, 85, of Gibsonburg, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Ohio Veterans' Home, Sandusky. Born on August 18, 1929 in Gibsonburg, he was a son of Ray and Nellie (Driftmyer) Damschroder. Louie was a 1947 graduate of Gibsonburg High School and served in the Army during the Korean War, being stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He enlisted on January 10, 1951 and was discharged on December 14, 1952. Louie was a retired farmer, worked for Veh & Sons Furniture for 8 years, and worked for the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home and its predecessors for many years. Louie was a Lifetime Member of the American Legion, Post #17 of Gibsonburg and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Louie was very comfortable in the kitchen, enjoying cooking and sharing his dishes. He was also a green thumb and liked tending to his garden. He was a wonderful husband of 62 years and was a loving father and grandfather. On April 11, 1953, Louis married Sheila Tefft, she survives him. He is also survived by children; Louis Jr. (Valerie) of Oak Harbor, Dwight (Patricia) of Fremont, Timothy (Susan) of Gibsonburg, Rebecca (John) Rofkar of Port Clinton, Marcia (David) Garrett of Mt. Sterling, OH, and Debra Damschroder of Norwalk; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Albert of Lima, Ruth McCoy and Thelma Henline of Fostoria, Ward Damschroder of Perrysburg, , and Ervin (Beth) Damschroder of Gibsonburg. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Ryan Rofkar; and siblings, Carl Damschroder and Elsie Deininger. Family and friends will be welcomed at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 319 W. Madison St., Gibsonburg, OH 43431 on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015, 10 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg where his body will lie in state one hour prior to the services. Burial with Military Rites will be at West Union Cemetery. Memorial may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg, American Legion Post of Gibsonburg, or to Stein Hospice of Sandusky.
