Darlene A. Hasselbach died Saturday, May 23, 2015. She passed peacefully, at home, surrounded by family after a long battle with diabetes and, finally, kidney failure. Darlene was born on the 7th of May, 1939 in Star Tannery, Virginia to the late Homer B. and Mae (Parker) Orndorff. She joined family in the Fremont area in order to finish high school where she met the love of her life, Gary N. Hasselbach. The couple graduated from Fremont Ross with the class of 1957 and were married on the 1st of November, 1958. He died in 2006. Darlene was a home-maker for twenty-five years then joined her husband in the family business, managing the office at Hasselbach Meats for nearly two decades. She retired in 2003. She was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of Church Council. Darlene enjoyed cooking for, and spending time with family. She liked playing cards, trivia and word games. She is survived by sons Rick, Dave (Marsha) and Paul (Joni); brothers Delaine (Bud) and Eugene Orndorff, and sister Sharon Conklin, all of the Fremont area; and sisters Madeline Orndorff of Akron, and Moline Williams, Erma Connor, Phyllis Copeland and Daphna Clem, all of Northern Virginia. She is further survived by nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Rodney and Homer O. Orndorff. Family and friends will be welcome on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, 3-8 p.m., at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 27, 10:30 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont where her body will lie in state beginning at 9:30. Rev. James Avers will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Kingsway. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fremont Dialysis Center or the Fremont VFW Post 2947, both to the care of Dave Hasselbach.
