Marian Loretta (Tille) Liskai, age 95, of Gibsonburg, passed away peacefully on Sept. 17, 2015 at the University of Toledo Medical Center. Marian, the youngest of six children, was born on Jan. 14, 1920 in Madison Township to William Frederick Tille and Lydia Follman. Surviving Marian are her children, Alexander (Janice) of Fremont, Ruth (Roy) Blair of Myrtle Beach, SC, David (Elizabeth) of Gibsonburg, Joan (Jack) Vincent of Gibsonburg, Stephen (Paulette) of Gibsonburg, Patricia (Terry) Henricks of Montpelier, Sandra (David) Haubert of Larkspur, CO; 17 grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren. Many step great and step great-great grandchildren also survive. Marian is preceded in death by her son, Dick; her parents; two sisters; three brothers; a grandchild; a great grandchild; and a step grandchild. Marian attended a one-room school until it closed and then transferred to Solomon Lutheran Parochial School. She graduated from Gibsonburg High School in 1937. In 1964, at a time when being a single parent was virtually unknown, Marian not only farmed eighty acres with her children at her side, but also worked outside the home to support her family. Marian initially took housekeeping positions for local schoolteachers and did seasonal work at the Cannery. In later years, she was a dietary employee in the Gibsonburg Schools and Fremont Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1982. Part of Marian's legacy is her strong work ethic - instilled in each of her children at an early age. Marian was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg, where she faithfully volunteered countless hours alongside others preparing funeral dinners. She also sat with a number of elderly Gibsonburg residents who needed overnight companionship. Marian was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed collecting for poppies. She was an active blood donor, having donated fifty units to the American Red Cross and an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Her favorite pastime was playing solitaire, which she enjoyed teaching to her grandchildren, reading and jigsaw puzzles. After retirement, Marian also enjoyed the fellowship of members of the Gibsonburg Garden Club. She was good with a needle and thread, having cross-stitched blocked quilts for each of her children while well into her seventies. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Sept., 20, 1-3 & 5-7 p.m., at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 319 W. Madison St., Gibsonburg, OH. A Celebration of Marian's Life will be conducted on Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, 10:30 a.m., at the Zion Lutheran Evangelical Church, Gibsonburg, where visitation will begin at 9:30. Rev. Blair Miller will officiate. Marian will be laid to rest on a hillside in North Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg, beside her parents; her son, Dick; her brothers, William, Adelbert, and Carl; and her sisters, Marie and Ruth. Serving as casket bearers will be her surviving grandchildren.
