Lucile Elizabeth Atkinson, 91, passed away on Sun., Oct. 25, 2015 at Valley View Health Care Center, Fremont surrounded by family. She was born on Aug. 16, 1924 in Riley Township to Chester & Verna (Trick) Hirt. Lucile graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1942. On June 3, 1943, she married Norman Atkinson at Grace Lutheran Church. Together they raised a family and remained married until his death in 1984. When the kids were little, Lucile was a homemaker. As they grew, she worked part-time as the Clerk of Courts for Sandusky County and as a Rice Township Trustee. Her entire life, Lucile was active baking, mowing lawns, farming, and loved cutting squares for quilt tops. Lucile had volunteered for Rice Township Board of Elections. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingsway, where she held various offices in the Women of the Church. Lucile was also a member of the Mary Martha Circle and Kingsway Happy Larks. Surviving are children, Margaret (Jim) Schwartz of Lindsey, Robert (Sue) Atkinson of Oak Harbor, David Atkinson of Oak Harbor, Donald (Kathy) Atkinson of Fremont, Ronald (Nancy) Atkinson of Rutherfordton, NC, Yvonne (Mike Beatty) Hammer of Fremont, and Mary (John) Yager of Livingston, TN; grandchildren: Jacqueline (Brian) Mowry and Jennifer (Ken) Bonnigson; Rob (Tonya) Atkinson and Andy (Traci) Atkinson; Shelley (Darren) Lumby and Chad (Lindsey) Atkinson; Brittany (Mike) Royster; Krista (Patrick) Wiseman and Sharon Atkinson; Charlie Hammer and Jamie Hammer; John Yager Jr. Christopher Yager and Michael Yager; Karl Parker of TX, Ray Parker of NY, Jessica Parker of Fremont, and Anna Johnson of TX; and 16 great-grandchildren. Lucile is preceded in death by parents; husband; and granddaughter, Amanda Hammer. Family and friends will be welcomed to the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 2- 8 p.m. on Thurs., Oct. 29. Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingsway on Fri., Oct. 30, 10:30 a.m., where an hour of visitation will be held prior to the start of the service. Pastor Robert Young will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Kingsway. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Williston Home of Mercy, Hospice of Fremont ProMedica Memorial Hospital, or donor's choice of charity.
