John Paul Shorts, 46, of Fremont died on Tuesday evening November 10, 2015 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 3, 1969 in Fremont to Paul Eugene and Shirley (Duffett) Shorts. John was a 1987 Fremont Ross graduate. Shortly after high school, John worked for Aeroquip-Inoac and continued working there until his “retirement” in 2007. He married Heather DeVaughn on June 6, 1998 at Worship Alive Church in Bellevue. John was a fan of the Pittsburg Steelers and UFC. He enjoyed attending Sunday church at his mom’s house. He loved spending time with his kids, fishing, hunting, gardening, camping and spoiling his dogs: Gracie, Holly and his buddy Baxter. He was known for making his own concoctions including hot sauce and pickled peppers. Surviving John is his wife, Heather; children, Josh Hoffman of Columbia, TN, Chelsea Shorts of Clyde, Chloe Shorts of Fremont, Bryce Shorts of Topeka, KS and Nick Dahms of Fremont; grandchildren, Alex and Roman; mother, Shirley (Gary) Thanasiu of Fremont; siblings, Al Shorts, Pamela (Larry) Moyes, Lynn (Brian) LeJune, Luke Shorts, David Shorts and Joyce Thompson; and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Paul and sister, JoAnn. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 1:00pm-5:30pm. A Funeral Service will begin at 5:30pm at the funeral home. Rev. Stan Gruhlke will officiate. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Fremont American Legion following funeral services. Memorials may be made to the Sandusky County United Way Cancer CareFund or to the family.
