Violet G. Darr, 93 of Fremont, passed away on November 15, 2015 in the comfort of her home. Violet was born on January 13, 1922 in Port Clinton, Ohio to Herman and Hazel (Demars) Wiechman. She attended Fremont Ross High School. On May 29, 1941, Violet married Donald W. Darr at St. Joseph Church in Fremont. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1992. Violet was a homemaker who worked alongside her husband for many years in the orchard business at the Darr-Werth Orchards in Clyde. Violet helped pick, pack and deliver fruit to many fruit stands in the area, and to fruit stands in Columbus and Cleveland. She also enjoyed working at the Lion Department Store in Fremont. Violet and Don were founding members of Sacred Heart Parish which was established in 1956. She was a member of the Riley School Mothers Club and the Riley Reapers Farm Women Club. She loved to quilt and was a charter member of the Hayes Ohio Star Quilters’ Guild. Violet always looked forward to the holidays to serve her famous meatballs and cut-out Christmas cookies to family and especially her grandchildren. Surviving are children; D. Joseph (Cheryl) Darr and Sue A. Smith of Fremont, David Lawrence (Dixie) Darr of Clyde, grandchildren; Jill-Anna (Jim) Osbourne of Oak Harbor, Johnathan Darr of Fremont, Shelly Foos (Mark Childress) of Fremont, Fred (Jodie) Smith of McCook, NE, Sam Smith (Kim Earl) of Bascom, Shawn (Tammy) Darr of Luckey and David A. Darr of Clyde; great grandchildren, Kathryn and Michael Osbourne, Ashley, Andrea and Kim Foos, Angie and Tony Stefanelli, Sebastian Darr and Cole, Kaycee and Kinlie Smith and Augustus Smith; great great grandchildren, Alexis and Cayden Nelson; sister-in-law Therese (Darr) Whitcomb and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Lawrence Wiechman. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church in Fremont. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 am with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery immediately following. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church or the American Heart Association.
