Glen William Zimmerman, 93, of Fremont passed away on Sat., Dec. 5, 2015. He was born in Wauseon, OH on Nov. 25, 1922 to George & Clara (Bernath) Zimmerman.
Glen graduated in 1940 and answered his country's call in 1942 serving in the Navy during WWII. He was stationed in Floyd Bennet Field NYC and then transferred to Cape May, NJ. Upon completion of his active duty, Glen transferred to the Coast Guard where he grew in rank eventually retiring as Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Reserves in Toledo.
During his service in the Navy, Glen met the love of his life Catherine Hansen, and they were married on July 6, 1946 in her home town, Marquette, MI. Once married, Glen moved his family to Fremont. There he was a co-owner of Swint-Reinick until his retirement in 1978. Glen was a member of the Fremont Lions Club, and helped park cars at the Sandusky County Fair for many years. He also was a long-standing member of the American Legion and served on the Board of Directors for Memorial Hospital.
Surviving Glen is his daughter, Karen (David) Cartwright of Waldo, OH; grandchildren, Kathryn (Jerry) Benson and Charles Cartwright; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicole, Josephine, and David Benson.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine who passed in Oct. of 2013; sons, Bruce and Glen Zimmerman; sisters, Clarice Krauss, Dorothy Lauber, Irma Hoy, Theola Fraker, and Mary Miley; brothers, Clair, Robert, Kenneth, Donald, Wayne; and infant brother, Lee Richard Zimmerman.
Memorials may be made to the Fremont Lions Club or the American Legion.

Funeral Services will be on Fri., Dec. 11 at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont, 11 a.m., with an hour of visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Certified Celebrant Maureen Pump will officiate. Military Honors conducted by the Fremont American Legion and VFW Honor Guard will be held at the funeral home following services. Burial will be at a later date.
