Bill Hampsher, 96, of Fremont, passed away on Thur., Dec. 10, 2015 at the Ohio Veteran's Home, Sandusky. Born on Nov. 7, 1919 in Fremont, he was a son of Howard & Florence (Golden) Hampsher.
Bill graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1939. He enjoyed camping, golfing, and spending the winters in Florida. Some of Bill's greatest past times were spent fishing with his grandchildren on the Portage River.
Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 during WWII in Italy. In 2011 he was able to take part in Northwest Ohio Honor Flight out of Toledo. Following his service, Bill worked at Kelsey Hayes-Fremont Foundry, eventually retiring on his 65th birthday. The same day, he retired from his part-time job at Fremont Realty.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Fremont, the American Legion, VFW and the former Old Betsey Ramblers Travel Club. On Jan. 22, 1946, he married Marvel Rose Crispen in Fremont; she preceded him in death on Mar. 19, 2007.
Surviving are daughters, Vickie (Galen) Schlipf of Port Clinton, Nancy (Jack) Whipple, and Monica (Kevin Minnich) Heath, both of Fremont; grandchildren: Brian, Brad and Jarrod (Shannon) Schlipf; Jamie (Laura) Whipple and Doug (Jamie) Whipple; Michelle Tyler, and Rachael (Jon) Shockley; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandsons; and siblings, Earl Hampsher and Betty Yaw.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jim Hampsher, Mary Lou Fox, Shirley and William Hampsher.
Visitation will be on Mon., Dec. 14th from 2-8 p.m., at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Funeral Services will be on Tue., 10 a.m. at the funeral home with an hour of visitation beforehand. Rev. Joe Lees will officiate.
Burial will follow at McGormley Cemetery, where Military Honors will be provided by the Fremont American Legion and VFW Posts.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Fremont.
