Vernon worked at Blocker Transfer in St. Petersburg, FL as a truck driver, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed woodworking and fiddling around with computers. Vernon owned and operated Eagles' Taxi in Fremont.
In 2001, Vernon married Diane Fisher in St. Petersburg, FL, she survives him. Also surviving are children, Samuel (Christine) Fischer of Mineola, NY, Michael (FiFi) Fischer of Elmont, NY, Antonia (Chris) Fazler or Mineola, NY, Maria Durham of Hicksville, NY, John (Chrissa) Crabtree of Reno, NV, and Yvonne (Russell) Mecham of Las Vegas, NV; 22 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Karen Stauner, Sandy Nickolas, Mike Crabtree, Greg Crabtree, Vincent Crabtree, and Walter Smith; and nieces, Christine (Randy) Nicholas and Dawn Vandergrift.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents.
