William "Gene" Leonard, 92, of Fremont died Friday, Mar. 4, 2016 at the Valley View Health Care Center, Fremont.
Born on Sept. 28, 1923 in Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, Gene was a son of Henry W. and Mary Elizabeth Leonard. Gene served his Country, enlisted in the Army during WW II, stationed in North Africa and India. On May 25, 1948, he married Blanche Howell in Kentucky. Blanche passed on Feb. 15, 2010.
Gene was a furnace operator at Brush Wellman, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, the VFW, American Legion, Moose and Eagles all of Fremont.
Surviving is daughter, Evelyn Vogel of Catawba; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; siblings Joyce Young of FL and Jim (Genevieve) Leonard of Hickory Ridge, AR.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; children Carl Glenn White and Shirley Pollock; son in law, Jim Vogel; a grandson; and siblings Mary Belle, David, Marshal, Norman and Wilbert Leonard.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Mar. 8, 2016, 4-7 p.m. at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Funeral Services will be Wed. Mar. 9 @ 10:30 a.m. at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, Fremont where visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Rev. Alan Brown will officiate.
Burial with Military Rites will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church or to ProMedica Memorial Hospice.
