Gibsonburg resident, Jack Denver Smith, Sr., 86, passed away on March 9, 2016 at Genoa Retirement Village. He was born on February 6, 1930 in Fremont to Herman & Ruth (Grundy) Smith. He attended Fremont Ross High School.
During the Korean Conflict, Jack served his country in the U.S. Air Force, being stationed in Alaska. Upon returning home, he married Delores L. Arndt on May 7, 1955 and they shared 55 years of marriage until her death on July 1, 2010. Jack worked various jobs to support his growing family. He retired as a fuel oil delivery driver for Luckey Farmers in 1992. He spent his retirement years watching and spoiling his grandchildren, caring for his wife and daughter, and solving the world’s problems with the “Liar’s Club” at Saturday morning breakfast meetings at Burger King and Arby’s.
Surviving are children, Jack (Kimberly) Smith of Lindsey, Linda (Dave) Lake of Millbury, James (Kimberlee) Smith of Lindsey, Kay (Herb) Hutchins of Elmore, Mary (Robbie) Burmeister of Gibsonburg, and Julieanne Smith of Clyde; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Nancy (Paul) Roach of Lindsey and Ward (Karen) Smith of Oak Harbor.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Mae Hepner, Lois Nycum, Leroy Smith and Glenn Smith.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church. Pastor Robert Young will officiate. The family will be receiving visitors starting at 10 AM and the Memorial Service will begin at 11 AM.
