Lucille “Lucy” Fork

Gibsonburg:  Lucille “Lucy” Fork, 89, died peacefully on Sunday, May 8, 2016, Mothers’ Day, at the Bowling Green Manor in Bowling Green, Ohio, following a 12 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born on April 29, 1927 in Black Joe, Kentucky to George and Allie McDonald.  The family then moved to Como, Texas when she was 3 years old.  Her father felt it was necessary because he was a coal miner and said the black lung disease would kill him if he didn’t leave.

Lucille was a 1945 Graduate of Como High School where she was very athletic in basketball and softball.  Lucille was a beautiful Southern lady and while visiting cousins in Gibsonburg, Ohio, she met her future husband Ralph Fork.   On December 22, 1947, Lucille married Ralph in Napoleon, Ohio.  He preceded her in death along with son John Fork.  Also surviving are children, Dennis (Xiang) Fork of North Las Vegas, NV, Kenny (Diane) Fork of Gibsonburg, Ronald (Brenda) Fork of Pemberville, Linda (Dana) Long, Jerry Fork and daughter-in-law Brenda Fork all of Gibsonburg.

Lucille was a dedicated homemaker to her six children often times raising them on her own for many years while her husband traveled for construction.  As a result, there was always a lot of car pooling living out on the country farm.  She was a great Southern cook and her Sunday dinners were a tradition for many years, and there was always sweet tea in the summer.  Lucille always stressed the importance of exercise to her children keeping them active whether taking evening walks, riding bikes, playing badminton or softball.  She carried on those traditions with her grandchildren bringing much joy and fulfillment to her life.  Her annual Easter egg hunts were always the best.  She loved her traditional country music and loved to dance, there was always a radio playing or records on the stereo.  An animal lover, she never turned down a stray dog or cat showing up on her back steps.  She had many faithful companions throughout her life, especially her cat Tiger.

Grandchildren:  Michael (Bethany) Fork, Kevin (Becky) Fork, Jennifer (Jason) Geoghan, Diane (Jason) Taulker, Kerry (Michael) Jones, Steve Long, Josh Fork, Danielle Fork and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation:   Wednesday, May 11th at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services:   Thursday, May 12th at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg.  Her body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the funeral.

Burial:  West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg
