Dec. 1, 1918 -- June 1, 2016
Marie E. Wagner, 97, of Fremont, moved into her Father's House in heaven, following a stroke. She was a strong farm woman who did not give up easily, but God granted her a gentle peaceful journey with the tender loving hands Elmwood of Fremont's caregivers.
She was the daughter of Henry and Ina (Hill) Dalton of Wakeman. Marie was raised on a farm well known for prize Holsteins and Percheron draft horses, which she exhibited. She met her future husband Nicholas W. Wagner at the Huron County Fair, where they both exhibited livestock. They were married March 1, 1939. He passed away on December 14, 2000.
Marie helped her husband Nick operate a purebred Angus and Hereford farm until their retirement in 1996. For 65 years, she was a member of the Bide-A-Wee Farm Women's Club, a group dedicated to supporting each other and giving to the community. She loved her church family at Faith Lutheran, and was active with Green Thumb Council, Farm Bureau, Ohio Cattle Women, Ohio Angus Association, and held many leadership positions in the farm community.
Surviving are children, Betty M. Wiedle of Vickery, William H. (Polly) Wagner of Lindsey, and Robert D. (Sandi) Wagner of Fremont, Wayne R. (Gloria) Wagner of Carr, CO, and Beverly (Bill) Roe of Hamilton, OH; daughter-in-law, Marge Wagner; and siblings, Homer Dalton of Wellington and Christena Johannsen of Medina. Marie was proud of her children, and blessed by her many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, dear friends and neighbors who were God's hands to her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nicholas Wilson Wagner, Jr.; son, Nicholas W. Wagner, III; brothers, Byron, Elmer, Harry, George, and Bill Dalton; sister and best friend, Hazel Gibbs; and son-in-law, Merrill Wiedle.
