Rural Helena resident, Paul Bernard Gschwind, 72, passed away on Aug. 4, 2016 in the comfort of his home. Born on February 8, 1944 in Fostoria, Ohio to Pearl Bernard and Betty (Garberson) Gschwind, Paul graduated in 1962 from Lakota High School. In 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in Germany during the Vietnam Era and was in the Reservists until his Honorable Discharge came April 6, 1971.
Paul was a material fitter for Apex Metal Fabrication and Machine in Toledo until his retirement in 2012. For many years, he bred, raised and showed quarter horses. That hobby led to his memberships in the Gibsonburg Saddle Club, Tri-State Rodeo Association, Ohio Quarter Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. Paul was also a former member of the Elmore Post of the American Legion, Sugar Creek Golf Course league and the Tontogany Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Paul will be remembered for his handiness and welding skills, love of the outdoors and his passion of firearms, fishing, hunting and golfing.
On May 18, 1974, Paul married Loretta Feighner at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Helena.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta; daughters, Ginnette (Scot) Clark of Gibsonburg and Sandra (Todd) Overmyer of Dawsonville, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew, Heather, Ty and Tori; great-grandchildren, Jadeon, Antonio, Jasmyn and Blaklee; and sister, Nancy (Jon) Laux of Tiffin.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Graveside Memorial Service with Military Rites will be held at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg on Friday, Aug. 12, 10:30 a.m. Rev. Blair Miller will officiate. Fellowship will follow at Zion Lutheran Church hall, Gibsonburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Sunshine in Decatur, GA or Spina Bifida Association in Washington D.C.
Arrangements are entrusted to our Fremont facility.
