Thomas Schemmer, 85, of Fremont, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at ProMedica Bay Park Hospital. He was born on May 15, 1931 in Toledo to August & Lillian (Beshalske) Schemmer.
Tom was a graduate of Harris-Elmore High School. He was well known for being a part of the Fremont community as a teacher at Vanguard, co-owner of Fremont Auto Parts and a lay leader at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, ministering to those in our local nursing homes.
Tom enjoyed spending time on Ham Radios, photography, woodworking, and boating. He was known all over the United States for his racing and manufacturing of discontinued engine parts. Tom was inducted into the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame in 2012.
Tom and his wife, Sandy (Weaver) Schemmer had celebrated their 61st anniversary on August 20th this year. In addition to Sandy, also surviving are children, Robin (Ronald) Kerns of Melbourne, FL, Ronald (Susan) Schemmer of Pensacola, FL, and Holly (Rick) Lucas of Port Clinton, OH; 8 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
He is proceeded in death by his parents and sister, Madeleine Widmer.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont on Friday, August 26, 2016. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. Pastor Alan Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at Four Mile House Cemetery, Fremont.
Memorials can be made to The Gideons International, Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame or Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Pastor Jeremiah Diegel and the doctors, nurses, and staff at ProMedica Bay Park Hospital for their care and compassion shown to Tom and our family.
