Vivian Mae Hammer, 85, of Gibsonburg, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016 at Valley View Health Care Center, Fremont, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 25, 1931 in Gibsonburg to Earl and Ellen (Strasel) Kohler. On July 5, 1949 she married Raymond Hammer at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Gibsonburg by Rev. Thomas Marlborough.
Vivian was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed the warmth, love and compassion she shared with all her family. She was a devoted member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, its Altar Rosary Society, choir, the Homemakers Club, and the Gibsonburg High School 49ers. Vivian volunteered at the Gibsonburg nursing home and enjoyed working with the Board of Elections. She was well known for her cooking, generosity, humor, and humble spirit.
Surviving are children, Jeffrey Hammer of Helena, Sharon Heminger , Julie (Paul) Picciuto, Jeannie (Vern) Brink, Scott Hammer, Danny (Robin) Hammer, Rosemary (Jerry) Widmer all of Gibsonburg, Ron (Joann) Hammer, Cindy Hammer and Peggy (Kenny) Halbisen all of Fremont; 22 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Norma (Larry) Friar, and Donald (Ruthie) Davies; sister-in-laws, Kate Kohler, and Mary Ellen Kohler. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Patrick; and siblings, Karen Conroy, Jane Shull, Richard and Jim Kohler.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016 from 2-8 p.m. at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg where a Vigil will be held that evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, where a time of quiet reflection with the family present beginning at 9:30 a.m. Fr. Chris Bazaar will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ProMedica Hospice, Gibsonburg Food Pantry, or Friends of Birchard Library.
