Edward C. Seils, 89, of Fremont passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital. He was born on August 1, 1927 in Fremont to Harry and Elsie (Hampshire) Seils.
Edward graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1945, where he earned his spot on the Fremont Ross Hall of Fame for football. After high school, he worked for Columbia Gas for his entire career. In 1954, Edward married the love of his life, Carol Walden, on his 27th birthday. They enjoyed golfing together and did so until her passing in 1999.
He was a lifelong member at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He volunteered at Country Side Nursing Home, Sandusky County Share & Care, and having the children read books to him at Lutz and Otis Elementary Schools until his health no longer allowed him to. Edward was a referee for both football and basketball for over 35 years. He was the happiest man working out in his yard and garden. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured the times he spent with his extended family and friends.
Edward is survived by his, children, Tim (Karen) Seils of Columbus, and Bobbi Jo (Jack) Seem of Fremont; grandchildren, Meredith (Christopher) Williams, Michael Seem, Kristi Jo (Brian) Balkovec, Troy Seils, Ashley (Alex) Walls; great-grandchildren, Lainey Claire, Callie, and Tucker; and siblings, Betty Stults, and Bob (Sue) Seils.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol Seils; and son, Andrew Seils.
Visitation for Edward will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 2:00-8:00 p.m. An additional hour of visitation will be held at St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday beginning at 2:30 p.m. where funeral services will follow at 3:30 p.m. Pastor Scott Mauch will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorial Donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
