Charles Eberhardt Sr.

Fremont resident, Charles Eberhardt Sr. passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. He was born April 14, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas to Chester E. & Viola M. (Clay) Eberhardt. Charles Sr. honored his country in the U.S. Airforce. While stationed at Patterson Field Airbase AMC, Charles met the love of his life, Phyllis Ferguson. They shared 65 years of marriage until her passing on September 7, 2015. Charles Sr. retired from the Fremont News-Messenger where he worked as a compositor for over 30 years. On May 21, 1958, he joined the Masons Harper Lodge #206 from there he became very involved with the Masons being a Past Master of Royal Lodge #192 AF & AM of Lyons, Kansas, Past High Priest Clyde Chapter #90 Royal Arch Masons, Past Illustrious Master Fremont Council #64 Royal & Select Masons, Knight York Cross of Honor, Past Commander Fremont Commandry #56, and a Past Patron Tiffin Chapter #189 Order of Eastern Star, and a member of Queen Esther Chapter #32 of Lyons, Kansas. Charles Sr. was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 58 years, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a life member of the VFW Post #2529, Sandusky and a Lyons, Kansas Jaycee member. He was a Cub Master and a Scout Master for the Cub Scout Pack #164 and Boy Scout Troop #164 in Lyons, Kansas. Surviving are children, Charlie Jr. (Kathleen) Eberhardt of Sandusky, Cindy (Rich) Roach of Strafford, MO, James (Rosalie) Eberhardt of Wellington, CO; Peggy Eberhardt of Fremont; and Lisa (Wade) Martin of Hinsdale, MT; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Walter Eberhardt, Patricia Corwin and Chester Eberhardt; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife and siblings, Betty Mitchell and Doris Hendrickson. Family and friends are welcomed to the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont on Friday, December 23, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. A service will be held at 6:45 p.m. by the Order of the Eastern Star followed by the Masons. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 24th at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, Fremont, where his body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont. Rev. Jeremiah Diegel will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio.
