Richard “Dick” R. Butler, 83, of Gibsonburg passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2016 at the Rutherford House in Fremont.
Born in Gibsonburg on Apr. 14, 1933 to Dewey and Carolyn (Siebrasse) Butler, Dick attended Gibsonburg Schools and went in the US Navy in 1952. On Aug. 13, 1955, he married Doris Zimmerman. Doris passed on Mar. 14, 2015.
Dick worked construction for most of his years and was an honorary member in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America after he completed 50 years of continuous work and membership. He was a member of the Gibsonburg American Legion and attended Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Dick will be remembered for being a loving Father, Grandpa and Great Grandpa, who enjoyed flea markets, collecting old tools and going to the dirt track, sprint car races, especially when his grandson drove.
Surviving is his daughter, Judy (Bruce) Berryman, Fremont; grandchildren Doug (Erika) Berryman, Fostoria and Jackie Berryman, Fremont; great grandchildren Kapri and Bella; and sister Shirley Cherry, Toledo.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; and brother Bob Butler.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 2, 3-7 p.m., at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Gibsonburg where Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, Jan 3, 10:30 a.m. Rev. Blair Miller will officiate. Casual attire will be welcomed as Dick didn’t like to be formal.
Burial will be at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.
Memorial donations may be made to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg.
