Marvis E. (Filliater) Wells, 77 of Helena passed away on Jan. 4, 2017 at Toledo Hospital.
Born on March 27, 1939 in Bloomville, OH, Marvis was the daughter of Edmund and Bessie (Edinger) Filliater. Marvis graduated from Jackson Burgoon High School in 1957. On March 22, 1958, she married Leonard Wells in Helena, OH. Together, they have 5 children: Robert L. (Tracy) Wells, Pamela K. (Thomas) Luc, all of Fremont, Allen N. (Angela) Wells of Lone Tree, CO, Nancy A. (Jim) Lipstraw of Lindsey, and Cindy (Jeff) Parker of Castalia.
While raising their children, Marvis babysat for children of many area families and did alterations from their home for others. As the kids grew, she took her expert sewing skills to Bridal Belle, New Beginnings Bridal and Personal Designs in Fremont. She retired in December, 2014.
The family grew and welcomed grandchildren: Chris (Lena), Lindsay (Steve Centofanti) and Derek (Katie) Wells, Andrew and Megan Luc, Shannon (Greg Bass) Bunke, David and Alison Pardo, Renee and Steven Lipstraw, Nichole Kocsis, Meagan Keegan, Haley and Kasey Parker; and 7 great-grandchildren CJ and Zach Wells, JJ and Jasmine Mumy, Reece Bunke, Roland Pardo and Jaxon Keegan.
Marvis is also survived by siblings, Lavina Williams, Marie Dolweck and Lawrence Filliater. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Justin Mumy, and siblings Richard, Nick and Carl Filliater and Anne King.
Marvis was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Millersville where she was the Past President of its Rosary Altar Society. For a long time, she donated her time in preparing the church’s altar linen. She was also a member of both the Fremont Eagles and the former Moose.
Visitation will be Sun. Jan 8, 2017, 1-7 p.m., at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg, OH where a rosary will be said that evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Mon. Jan. 9, 2017, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Millersville, where visitation will begin at 9:30. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.
