Mary E. Keyes

April 27, 1923 — January 18, 2017

Mary E. (Koebel) Keyes, 93, left the burden of her physical body behind at the Orchard Villa in Oregon, Jan. 18, 2017, and joined all her generational family. She was born on April 27, 1923 to Howard A. and Lucy (Shawl) Koebel.

 

After graduation from Fremont Ross High School in 1941, she was briefly a bookkeeper for several local businesses. She joined the staff at Erie Proving Grounds (Camp Perry) in 1942, and quickly became the head of her department. She returned to work when her children were in school and retired from Rural Serve in 1985.

 

On December 26, 1945, she married William “Bill” E. Keyes, one month after he returned from service in WWII.

 

Surviving is her son, Dennis (Barbara) Keyes of Albion, MI; daughters, Nancy (Joseph Grandjean) Keyes of Holland and Teresa (Gary) Greene of Green Springs; grandchildren, Aaron (Amy) Keyes, Kristen (Nathan) Keyes Cook, Nathan (Erin) Briney, Joshua and Jeremy Greene; and great-grandchildren, Aaron II, Austin, Isabella, Trae, Jaxon, Ireland, Flinn, and Colin.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, William; and brothers, Robert, Willis and Howard Koebel.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Independence Hospice of Toledo or to the Humane Society of Sandusky County.

 

A special thanks for the loving care to Dr. Wonderly, Senior Independence Hospice staff, and Orchard Villa staff, especially Dawn and Jenny.

 

A private service and burial took place at Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont.
