Thomas P. Buti, 91, formerly of Bellaire, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at The Willows of Bellevue. He was born on October 6, 1925 in Bellaire to Giovanni & Fidelma (Gualtierri) Buti.
Thomas answered the call of his country in 1943, serving during WWII in the South Pacific for the U.S. Navy. He worked for many years at the Ormet Corporation as a furnace fireman until his retirement in November of 1983.
Thomas was a member of the VFW and Steelworkers Union. He enjoyed spending time fishing, camping, traveling and visiting the Casino.
On June 4, 1955, he married Olivia Muntean, and they shared 61 years of marriage until Thomas’ passing. In addition to his wife, Olivia, surviving are children, Joe (Kim) Buti of Fremont, OH and Gina (Ronn) Willard of Richmond, TX; 3 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Dena DeMarco; and brothers, Deno and Otto Buti.
Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors or to the American Heart Association.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, February 4, 2017, at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Bellaire. Prior to the Mass, the Belmont County Veterans Association will honor Thomas with a short military service at 11:15 am in the church.
There will be a Celebration of Life and luncheon immediately following at 1:00 pm, which will be held at the Sons of Italy, 3348 Belmont St. in Bellaire.
