Lt. Col. Glenn Robert Davis

October 2, 1931 — January 17, 2017

Former Gibsonburg resident, Lt. Col. Glenn Robert Davis, 85, passed away at his Gravois Mills, Missouri home on Jan. 17, 2017. He was born on October 2, 1931 to Arthur and Lillian (Kopfmann) Davis and was one of nine children.

Glenn was raised on the family farm, helping with the farming and dairy while attending Gibsonburg Schools, graduating in 1949. He was an excellent student and loved playing both basketball and football. He attended Bowling Green State University for two years until he enlisted into the Air Force where he was trained as a machine gunner. He then joined the Air Force cadets and became a pilot. He also flew in the Ferry Command, taking planes from the factory to other countries. He was a fighter pilot in Vietnam, one of the few pilots to accomplish 100 missions. He safely survived even though his plane was hit several times. After the war, he often remarked on the sadness of losing so many fellow pilots.

Prior to his retirement from the Air Force after 20 years, Glenn served as a Courier to Rabat, Morocco and held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He then lived in Victorville, CA, for three years and enjoyed his great love of hunting with friends there and from the Air Force. Glenn and a close friend, Roy Rogers the actor, bowled in leagues there.

His final move was to the beautiful Ozark area in Gravois Mills, MO. It was there he bought a lovely home with lake access where he fished and hunted with his beloved dogs.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Donald, Raymond and Marvin as well as two sisters, Geraldine Dominique and Phyllis Wellman. He is survived by sisters, Betty Zuleger and Bernadine Black. Also surviving is brother, Ronald Davis (Judith) of Gibsonburg and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg on Saturday, February 11, 2017. A Memorial Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial with Military Rites will be at the Veteran’s Section of West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.
