Mary Kay Hart

October 18, 1942 — March 24, 2017

Mary Kay Hart, 74, of Gibsonburg passed away Fri., Mar. 24, 2017 at Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green.  She was born on Oct. 18, 1942 in Fremont. The second of four children of Roy and Ruth (Myers) Balsizer. 

 

As a 1960 graduate of Gibsonburg High School, she continued her education by graduating from BGSU and holds a master’s degree in teaching from The University of Toledo.  She worked over 36 years as an elementary teacher for the Gibsonburg School System, retiring in 2003. She then continued to substitute until she was unable to.  Locally, Mary served the Gibsonburg Teachers Organization, holding several offices, additionally being active with the PTA.  On a district level, she served as NWOEA Chair of the Fund-Raising Committee and as a member of Professional Development and Awards Committees.  She was awarded the NWOEA District Service Award in 2011 and was a Jenning’s Scholar. She belonged to the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

 

Mary was very active in her personal and church life.  She loved her family, grandchildren and attending their sporting events.  She enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing, jewelry and card making, golfing and shopping.  She was a past president of the Gibsonburg Jr. Women’s and Women’s Federation.  Mary served on the United Way Board, was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the Common Cents Investment Club and the study group, Sirosis.  As a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Gibsonburg, she served as a trustee, a Sunday School teacher and was on the Worship and Educational Committees.

 

Surviving are children, Scott (Kristi) Hart of Fostoria, Shelly Payne of Port Clinton and Stacy (Dirk Lincicome) Chapman of Blue Rock; grandchildren, Kenzie and Melanie Payne and Drew & Jack Lincicome; siblings Susie (Walt) Elmer of Gibsonburg, Butch Balsizer of Fort Myers, FL and Patricia Smith of Perrysburg, former husband, Phillip Hart of Port Clinton and cherished friend Chris Linke of Gibsonburg.

 

Visitation will be held at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg on Tues., Mar. 28, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg, Wed., 10:30 a.m., with an additional hour of visitation beginning at 9:30.  Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church.
