Jean Ann Champion was born on November 28, 1928 in Genoa, Ohio. She was the youngest of four children born from the union of the late Lloyd C. and Hazel (Holland) Champion. She graduated from Genoa High School.
Jean married the love of her life Jack R. Fry on June 6, 1948 in Genoa. For many years, she cared for the needs of her husband and children as a homemaker and also was a talented seamstress working from home. Later, she took employment at Jo-Ann Fabrics, Sears, a Telephone Operator, and with Jack as a glass dealer. Jean was a devout member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg for many years.
Jean was very organized, energetic, joyful, always active, positive, and outgoing. She was a dedicated Hospice worker in Fremont, Ohio. Here she spent countless hours serving others and helping to train volunteers. In 2013, Jean moved to Newport to live with her daughter. She attended church at Trinity Lutheran and often visited the Frenchtown Senior Center making friends wherever she went.
Jean was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Imperial Candlewick Club.
Jean Ann Fry, age 88, of Newport passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by husband: Jack in 2003; her son: Jan Fry in 2010; her siblings: Vance Champion, Margaret Rogers and Elsie Schmitt
To cherish her memory, Jean leaves her daughter and son-in-law: Cheryl and Paul Everett of Newport; grandchildren: Christopher Paul Everett (Tracy Grine) of Findlay, Ohio and Stephanie Joy Everett (Chris Bermudo) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren: Tiffany Brooker, Brittany Grine and Steffany Grine; great-great grandchild: Eli; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather on Saturday, May 20 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. Funeral Services will be Sunday, May 21, 2 p.m, at Zion Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg where visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will be at West Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Monroe are suggested to Wellspring Lutheran Services or Trinity Lutheran Church Community of Needs Meal and in Gibsonburg to Zion Lutheran Church. Online guests may visit www.hermanfh.com.
