Herbert Hollinger, 93, of Kansas, OH passed away Friday evening, June 16, 2017 at Elmwood of Fremont. He was born on April 11, 1924 to Carl and Bernice (Seiger) Hollinger.
In 1942, he graduated from Jackson Burgoon High School. During WWII, Herbert joined the U.S. Army. He served in the Signal Corp. He was also an Expert Rifleman.
Herbert was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the former Canaan EUB United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. He was also a member of the American Legion Bradner Post 0338 and a past member of the School Board for Lakota Schools. Herbert attended Scott Trinity UMC for many years.
On November 27, 1946, in Marion, OH he married Lois Mae Murphy. Together they shared 70 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois; children, Joan (Chris) Cunningham, Janet (Kim) Doud, Herbert (Erin) Hollinger; grandchildren, Aaron (Amber) Cunningham, Janel (Patrick) Mason, Kyle Doud, Rylie, Hagan, Derek, and Garet Hollinger; great-grandchildren, Avery and Asher Cunningham, Maria and Micah Mason; and brother, Robert Hollinger.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Juanita Wyant, Jean Baker, and Albert Hollinger.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg from 10-11:30 a.m. Funeral Services will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Marla Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at Kansas Cemetery where Military Rites will be given.
Memorial contributions may be made to Scott Trinity United Methodist Church or the Kansas Volunteer Fire Department.
