Former Helena resident, Regina “Jean” Gonya, 95, died Tuesday afternoon, June 20, 2017, surrounded by her in family in Garland, Texas.
Born in Millersville on June 14, 1922, Jean was one of nine children of John and Mary (Daly) Dudley. She graduated from Jackson-Burgoon High School in 1940. In 1945, she married Donald Gonya at St. Mary Catholic Church, Millersville. They were together for 57 years until Donald’s passing in 2002.
Jean was a homemaker, someone with a fierce love and loyalty to her family and a passion for crocheting treasures for those she loved. She was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a past president of the Rosary and Altar Society. Jean worked for the Board of Elections for many years and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and was fond of music.
Jean is survived by her children, Kathleen “Kathy” (Mike) Bundschuh of Garland, TX, Karen (Ron) Seman of Helena and Donald A. (Lori) Gonya of Findlay; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and brother, John C. (Jean) Dudley of IL.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings Alfred, Harold, William, and Richard Dudley, Mary Gabel and Edna & Delores Schade.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 25, 2017, 4-8 p.m., at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Monday, June 26, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, Millersville. Rev. Chris Bazar will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Millersville.
