Heather Ann Laurer, 31, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus. She was born on November 20, 1985 at Edwards Airforce Base, California, to Scott & Debra (Barr) Laurer.
Heather attended Atkinson Elementary School, Gibsonburg Middle School, Woodmore High School, then Vanguard. She received her diploma from Fremont Ross High School in 2006. For several years she worked at Sandco Industry in Clyde.
Heather also enjoyed Special Olympics and participated in volleyball, basketball, softball, bowling, and the cheer squad. She received the Special Olympics Top Ten Award in 2016. Heather loved going to the Fremont Community Theatre and local high school plays. She loved the times spent at the lake giving rides on her golf cart. She always had a great time going to Cedar Point with her buddy Jay. Heather loved being around people, listening to music, and going to dances. She went to Camp Echoing Hills and was a part of Sandusky County People First Chapter where she was Vice President in 2016. She spoke at the Legislative Day & Synergy Conference in Columbus in 2016 and 2017. Heather was an ecstatic Ohio State Buckeye fan and enjoyed watching the football games. She had a big heart and a beautiful smile, we will miss.
Heather is survived by her parents, Scott and Debra Laurer of Fremont; sisters, Courtney (Ismael) Venegas of Charleston, SC, and Amanda (Zack) Stine of Fremont; nieces and nephews, Antonio, Amyah and Camden; grandparents, Leona Laurer and Chuck & Becky Barr; several aunts and uncles; and her beloved dog, Sam.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, George Laurer.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, Fremont where there will be an additional hour of visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Fr. Matt Wahlgren will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in order to give back to the people who have had an impact in Heather’s life, such as Sandco and The Special Olympics.
