David R. Binnig

David R. Binnig, 79, passed away at his Lindsey home Sept. 5, 2017.

Born on Nov. 21, 1937, in Greenville, PA, David was a son of John George and Catharine (Roush) Binnig.  He grew up in Thompson, OH, graduated from Madison High School and from the Ohio State University. 

David worked as an administrator and educator at Vanguard Vocational School in Fremont retiring in 1997.  After his service at Vanguard, he began working as a groundskeeper at Sycamore Hills Golf Course and remained working for another 20 years, 

Over the years David pursued many activities including interests in vintage tractors, piano tuning, genealogy, and world travel.  He served several years in the Army National Guard of Ohio, discharged in 1966 as a Second Lieutenant.  He was a former Lindsey Village Councilman and served as sexton of Lindsey Cemetery.  He was an active member of the Fremont Elks, the Sandusky County Republican Party, and Life Member of the American and Ohio Vocational Associations, as well as the Sons of the American Revolution.  For 22 years, David served on the Sandusky County Fair Board and was a long-time member of the Sandusky County Farm Bureau and the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. 

Surviving are siblings, Lucinda Simonson of Chipley, FL and Mark (Kathleen) of Cleveland Heights; nieces and nephews, Tim Simonson of Avon Park, FL, Pamela (Troy) Simonson Corbin of Chipley, FL, Elizabeth (Jeff) Simonson Connors of Toronto, ON and David (Ruth Howell) Binnig of Seattle, WA. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, 1:30 p.m., at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Lindsey.  Rev. Travis Montgomery will officiate.  Fellowship will follow at the church hall.  Burial at Lindsey Cemetery will be private.

Donations in David’s memory may be directed to the Sandusky County Historical Society, 514 Birchard Ave., Fremont, OH
