Jean Elaine Cunningham

Jean Elaine Cunningham went home to her Lord and loved ones on September 15, 2017 from Elmwood of Fremont.

Born on July 2, 1928 in Fostoria, Ohio, Jean was the daughter of Henry and Alma (Cherry) Breyman. She graduated from Fremont Ross High School and started her career at the Howard Zink Company. She soon boldly moved to Washington D.C to manage an insurance office. It was in our nation’s Capital that she married the love of her life, Bob Cunningham, on November 14, 1953.  He survives.

When their family grew, Jean became a homemaker and an amazing mother to her children and a second mother to most of her children’s friends. She always had time for a kickball game or to make Kool-Aid for the neighborhood kids. Everyone wanted to be at the Cunningham house because Jean was the “fun” Mom!

Jean went back to work when her children entered middle school and spent the rest of her working career as an employment benefit specialist with the State of Ohio. She served over 25 years until her retirement in 1989. She was proud to be a life-long member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed reading, bingo, boating and spending time with her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s sports activities. She was a huge fan of the Detroit Tigers and loved Ohio State football.

She is also survived by beloved children, Robin (Patrick) McMullen of Columbus and Guy Cunningham of Fremont; grandchildren, Douglas & Kyle Cunningham and Darby McMullen; and brother, Henry “Ed” Breyman of Fremont.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Phyllis Ann Lamalie and infant Mary Breyman.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Jody Rice officiating. A luncheon will follow. Please come casually dressed.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be sent to Grace Lutheran Church, 705 West State Street, Fremont.
