Millard "Bill" Lee Burns

Gibsonburg resident, Millard “Bill” Burns, 91, formerly of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at Hospice of NW Ohio in Perrysburg.

Born in Gibsonburg on Feb. 20, 1926, he was a son of Ross and Elizabeth (Niswander) Burns.  He served our Country during WWII, serving in the US Army.  On May 10, 1944, Bill married Winifred Black in Gibsonburg.  She preceded him in death on July 3, 1979.  He later married Frances (Lee) Jenkins, also in Gibsonburg, on Sept. 5, 1980.  She, too, passed away on Feb. 10, 2006.

Bill was an equipment operator for ODOT, retiring in 1992.  He then worked as a part time driver for Thermal Gas of Fremont and other trucking companies.  He attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Gibsonburg.  Bill enjoyed listening to old country western music and had a special friendship with the members of the Sleek Brothers Band.

Surviving are his children, Richard (Connie) Burns of Genoa, Kathy (Al) Melchor of Gibsonburg, Bill (Karen) Burns of Perrysburg, Teri (Dwayne) Bates of Holland; step children Charlotte (Dwayne) Dunn of CA, John (Nancy) Stancil of Albertville, AL, and Shelia Johnson of Bowling Green; and many grand and step grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Winifred and Frances; children, Jennifer & Scott Burns; step son James Helle; two granddaughters; a step granddaughter; and siblings Zona Meyers, Delorus Clabaugh, Virginia Cunningham, and Claude & Donald Burn.

Visitation will be Monday, Jan 15, 2018, 2-8 p.m., at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg where Funeral Services will be Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m.  Rev. Max Ulderich will officiate.  Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.

Memorial donations may be directed to Hospice of NW Ohio, Perrysburg or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
