Marie Ida Burkhart, 94, of Gibsonburg, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Toledo Hospital. The eldest of five daughters, she was born on October 1, 1923, in Helena to the late Celestine and Rebecca (Herman) Dolweck. Marie was a 1941 graduate of Gibsonburg High School. On April 3, 1948, Marie married Herbert Reinbolt, and they were happily married 33 years before Herb’s death. On June 14, 1985, Marie married William Burkhart, and they were married for 22 years before he too preceded her in death in 2008. A lifelong resident of the Gibsonburg area, Marie worked after her graduation at the Erie Proving Grounds during WWII. After the war Marie worked at Gibsonburg Farmers Elevator. Marie helped Herb run the family farm in Gibsonburg until his death in a train accident on May 26, 1981. Marie was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Church in Gibsonburg. She was a past president of their Altar Rosary Society and volunteered for many church activities including working on their funeral dinners. Marie was deeply devoted to her faith and family. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and sewing. Marie is survived by her son, John Reinbolt of Gibsonburg and daughter, Christine Bennett (Donnie) of Coldwater, MI. She is also survived by her step-children Rinold “Rick” Burkhart (Christine) of Maumee, Linda Burkhart-Sanchez of Holland, Kenneth Burkhart of Rock Hill, SC, Kim Croskey (Bernard) of Toledo, and Tina Pruss (David) of Holland; grandchildren, Shannon Allen (Matt) and Kyle Bettenbrock (Tammy); step-grandchildren, Rinold “Ron” Burkhart (Kathleen), Andrea Kleve (Thomas), James Piasecki, Brian Piasecki, Bradley Piasecki (Julie), Daniel Burkhart (Sera), Emily Burkhart, Luke Burkhart, Eric Ovall, Melissa Miller (Justin), Amanda Watts (Jay); two great-grandchildren, and 19 step-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Loyola Zeller, Marcella Kirwen, and Phyllis Reed, all of Gibsonburg. In addition to her husbands, Marie was preceded in death by her sister, Rita Haley; step-grandson, Carl “Cal” Ovall; step-granddaughter, Nicole Piasecki; and step-great-granddaughter, Amelia Pruss. Family and friends are invited to a visitation at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 319 W. Madison St., in Gibsonburg on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 2-8 p.m. where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 18 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 317 E. Madison St., in Gibsonburg followed by burial at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Gibsonburg. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or the donor’s choice.
