Harold E. “Gene” Sens, 90, of Helena, was called Home to be with Our Lord late Tuesday evening Jan. 23, at home.
He was born Sep. 29, 1927, in Marion, OH. He was a World War II veteran. He graduated from DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. He was V.P. and general manager of WLEC radio station Sandusky, OH and later owner and Gen. Mgr. of WZLE radio station in Lorain, OH. He was active with 4-H and was chairman of the Erie county March of Dimes in his younger years. He loved animals, especially horses. He had an indomitable spirit and many hobbies. At the age of 80 he purchased a motor scooter and enjoyed riding with friends. He enjoyed meeting friends each morning for coffee and donuts at the Ideal Bakery. He also loved to spend time celebrating special occasions with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rita D. (Saccaro) Sens; his children, Gene (Huong) Sens, Seattle, WA, Clare (John) Gemmel of Rossford, OH, Anita (Mark) O’Halla of Troy, MI, Lori Sens of St. Petersburg, FL, Christine (Kenneth) Brochin of Ottawa Hills, OH, Joel Sens of Arlington, VA, Jeffrey (Penny) Sens of Westerville, OH and Patricia (Edward) Walther of Fremont, OH; and his brother, Charles (Jeanette) of Marion, OH. Harold had 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren that he loved very much and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Belle (Gough) Sens; his brothers, Fred, Bernard, Paul, Joseph, James; his sisters, Bernadine, Marie, Mildred, Anna, Norma; and his son Joseph.
At his request, cremation will take place and there will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 317 E. Madison St., Gibsonburg, OH. The Father Stan Tabor will officiate. A celebration of Gene’s life will be held at a later date.
