Allen R. Lee, 91, of Gibsonburg passed away peacefully at ProMedica Memorial Hospital in Fremont on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 21, 1926 in Clyde, OH to James and Alma (Bennehoff) Lee.
Al left high school to serve his country in the Navy during WWII, where he was stationed in the South Pacific on the USS Regal. When he returned he met the love of his life, Eileen Swanger, and they were married on December 7, 1946 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Fremont. They shared 62 loving years of marriage until Eileen’s passing on October 22, 2009. Al worked for many years as a carpenter and supervisor for Mosser Construction, until his retirement in 1989.
He was an active member at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg where he was a trustee and played on the dartball team for over 50 years. He was proud to be a part of his community, where he served on the Cemetery Board, was a baseball coach, and was a member of the Town Council. In Al’s spare time he enjoyed traveling and watching sports, especially the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Surviving are his children, Terry (Sandy) Lee of Woodville, Pam (Steve) Taulker of Gibsonburg, and Pat (Bob) Reino of Northwood; grandchildren, Brent (Meghan) Reino, Amanda (Andy) Potter, Jill (Chris) Jensen, Marcus (Rachel Hagedorn) Lee, Jamie Macke, Jenny (Brian) McCord, and Sarah (Todd) Haydock; great-grandchildren, Kate, Emily, Ainsley, Addison, Rachel, Jack, Zachary, Zoey, Serenity, Ashlyn, Collin, Brynlee, Kenzley, Tyson, and Tanner; and sister, Doris (Tony) Koke.
Al is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eileen; and brothers, Bernard, Leonard, Donald, Dale, Robert, Jacob, and Billy.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 2-8 p.m. at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg where there will be an additional hour of visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Max Ulderich will officiate. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg or ProMedica Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
