Merle Kenneth Nickel, 85, of Fremont, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. He was born on July 31, 1932 in Fremont to Melvin & Clayts (Hetrick) Nickel.
Merle was 1951 graduate from Fremont Ross High School and was the owner of Nickels Gulf Station. He loved to travel and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. He was a great musician and singer. Merle loved his Harley Davidsons and working on cars. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
On April 28, 1962, Merle married Lynda F. Arnold. They were married for 48 years before Lynda’s passing on September 20, 2011. Merle is survived by his children, Pamela (Victor) Eilrich of Oak Harbor, Penney (Matthew) Everly, Sharleen Nickel and Lonnie “Tony” Nickel, all of Fremont; brother, Myron (Audrey) Nickel of Fremont; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lynda; and siblings, Wayne Nickel, Verna Mae Stuckey and Eugene (JoAnn) Nickel.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. with an additional hour of visitation, beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood (Kingsway) Cemetery, Fremont.
Memorials can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
