Lyla M. Avers, 95, of Fremont passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the University of Toledo Medical College. She was born on December 20, 1922 in Fremont to Howard and Margaret (Zink) Druckenmiller.
Lyla graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1940. On July 13, 1946 she married, Arnold Avers at Grace Lutheran Church. Together they shared 34 loving years of marriage until Arnold’s passing in November 1980.
Lyla worked for several years as an owner and manager at Noftz and Avers Embroidered Lettering in Fremont. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she participated in the Altar Guild, church council, Project Day, the Inbetweeners and funeral luncheons. Lyla was also a volunteer at the Sandusky County Food Pantry, the American Red Cross, and Lutheran Social Services. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, plastic needle work, quilting, and being with family.
Surviving are her children, John (Diane) Avers and Janice (Robert) Harris both of Clyde; grandchildren, Kyle (Kristy) Harris, Lindsay (Jeremie) Vore, Eric (Emily) Avers, and Andrea (Elias Pschernig) Avers; 7 great-grandchildren; and sister, Faye Druckenmiller.
Lyla is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold Avers; and sister, Hazel Noftz.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral Services will be on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, where there will be an additional hour of visitation prior to the start of the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Pastor Jody Rice, Certified Celebrant Maureen Pump, and Pastor Henry Seibert will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, the Sandusky County Food Pantry, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
