Gibsonburg- Betty Jane Phillips, 90, passed away on Sun., July 15, 2018 surrounded by family. She was born on Sept. 29, 1927 in Monroe, MI to Willard and Verda (Meyers) Marsh. On Nov. 10, 1933, her parents tragically passed in a house fire, sending Betty to be raised by her Uncle and Aunt Peter & Maime Nieset.
She married Cloyce Phillips on June 16, 1945. Betty wanted to give children a safe and loving home. She and Cloyce raised their five children along with over 500 other children as Foster Parents. For 15 years, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Luther Meadows.
Betty was a member of the Nazarene Church and was also a 4-H leader.
Surviving are children, Charles W. (Judi) Phillips of Oregon, Kathleen M. (Nelson) Boice of Kansas, Jonnie E. (Shane) Haunlorst of Gibsonburg, and Edward Phillips of St. Marys; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Stebbins; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Cloyce who passed in April of 2002; daughter, Sharon McDaniels; grandsons, Cloyce McDaniels and Scott Boice; and siblings, Doris White, Richard Marsh, Albert Wagner, Mabel Lowe, and Bill Gossett.
Visitation will be held on Thurs., July 19, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. Funeral Services will be on Fri. at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Bob Carpenter will officiate, and burial will follow at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
