Iva Baker, 96, of Fremont, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Elmwood Assisted Living. She was born on February 11, 1922 in Fremont to Frank and Amelia (Ohms) Shiets.
Iva was a 1939 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. She was a chief operator of Ohio Bell Telephone Company, now AT&T, until her retirement in 1980. Iva was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rachael Circle and Its Crafty Ladies. She was a life time member of Ship In Soroptimist International of Fremont, the Pioneers of America and a charter member of World War II Monument.
On February 9, 1946, Iva married Richard Baker. They shared 66 fabulous years of marriage until his passing on February 11, 2012.
Iva is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Leonard) Pickering of IN; grandchildren, Ryan (Alisa) Pickering and Kristie (Paul) Hess; great-grandchildren, Ashley & Devin Pickering and Hanna, Jacob, Samuel, Jeremiah & Sera Hess; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; daughter, Kimberly Baker and siblings, Gladys Sterling, Agnes Willis, Cleo Shiets, Grace Shetenhelm, Ruth Erb and Lois Shiets.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 3, 2018 at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. from 9:00-11:00 a.m. where Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Matthew Wheeler will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
