Rural Gibsonburg, OH resident, Lisa Anne Balsizer, 54, passed away in an automobile accident on Aug. 3, 2018. Born in Monroe, MI on Nov. 3, 1963, she was a daughter of Floyd and Mildred (Deihl) Savage. After graduating from Ida High School in Michigan, Lisa began working construction and was a union carpenter for 20 years. During that time, she aspired to be involved in the health care industry, attending Owens College. The amount of coursework she completed was equivalent to a master’s degree. As a registered nurse, she worked 11 years at ProMedica Bay Park Hospital. When the opportunity presented itself, she moved to ProMedica Home Health where she was compassionate, very happy and felt a sense of accomplishment in her career. Lisa was a people person; was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg; loved to travel, especially to Europe; cooking and baking cookies & apple pies; helping her husband, Cal, on the family farm; and was proud to have personally remodeled several rooms at their home. She was a fan of the “Big Brother” television series that she watched with her two daughters every summer. On July 4, 1994, Lisa married Carl “Cal” Balsizer in Gibsonburg. He survives her. Together they had two daughters; Callie Rae Balsizer, who perished in the same auto accident, and Jessica Anne Balsizer of Gibsonburg and most recently of Alabama. Lisa is also survived by her mother, Mildred Legas; and siblings, Robert (Barb) Savage, Janet (Larry) Hamblin, William “Bill” (Susan) Savage and Linda Boudrie all of Monroe County, MI. She is preceded in death by her step-fathers, Anthony Palicki & Anthony Legas; and brothers Daniel and Timothy Savage. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, 1-8 p.m. at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 319 West Madison St., Gibsonburg, OH. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, Aug. 13, 11 a.m, at Ole Zim’s Wagon Shed, 1387 SR 590, Gibsonburg where visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Pastor Blair Miller will officiate. Burial will be at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Lisa’s daughter, Jessica.
