Fremont- Stefan Ried, 71, passed away on August 11, 2018 at Stein Hospice, Sandusky. He was born in Fremont on December 22, 1946 to the late Glenn Frank and Frieda Elizabeth (Hetrick) Ried.
After graduating from Fremont Ross in 1965, Stefan served his country during Vietnam in the Navy. He worked for the Sandusky County Sheriffs Department as a Deputy, retired from the Fremont Police Department as a Police Officer in 1995, and most recently retired from Vanguard and Sentinel as a Truant Officer.
On August 26, 1972 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, he married Marian Fairall. Stefan was an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and boating.
Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Marian; children, Eric Michael Ried and Stefanne Erin Ried both of Fremont; grandsons, Xavier Augustin, Xander Shay, and Donovan Michael Ried; and sister, Janese Lynette Ried of Fremont.
Visitation will be held at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont on Thursday August 16th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be at the St. John’s Lutheran Church on Friday at 10:30 a.m. where there will be an additional hour of visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Matthew Wheeler will officiate assisted by Lorna McKinstry. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens where Military Honors will be rendered.
Thank you to all the Doctors and Nurses at the North Coast Cancer (Sandusky)/Cleveland Clinic who helped Stefan along his journey.
Memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Sandusky County Humane Society, Stein Hospice, or St. John’s Lutheran Church.
