Joan Elizabeth Shoemaker

May 29, 1925 — October 8, 2018

Gibsonburg- Joan Elizabeth (Cable) Shoemaker, 93, passed away on Oct. 8, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. She was born on May 29, 1925 in Sydenham England to the late William and Elizabeth (Player) Cable.

She married Willis F. Shoemaker on August 5, 1944 at St. Mary’s Church in Hampden Park, Sussex, England. Joan came to America as a British War Bride in 1946 and received her naturalization Citizenship on June 13, 1951.  Joan was a “Shopping Queen.” She enjoyed working in her flower garden, needlework and spending time with her family. She was a homemaker and a former waitress at several Gibsonburg restaurants, the last being Smitty’s.

Joan is survived by her children: Philip (Daphne) Shoemaker of Shreveport, LA, Carole (Thomas) Wasserman of Helena, and Linda Tille of Gibsonburg; grandchildren: Cayla Shoemaker Hicks McDonald, Stacy (Shorty) Sebetzki, Amy Nicole (Trey) Spring, Scott Wasserman, Gregory Wasserman and Thomas P. (Veganda) Wasserman, Joshua (Andrea) Henline and Rachel (Jim) Auld; great-grandchildren: Cade (Katie) Hicks, Peyton Brown, Allie Hicks, Riley Sebetzki, Hannah Sebetzki, Audrey Spring, Jack Spring, Amanda Wasserman, Kimberly Wasserman, Robert Henline, Faith Henline, Jacob Auld, Julia Auld, and Jonathan Auld; great-great-grandchildren: Ainsley Hicks and Ambree Hicks; sister, Eileen (Albert) Berry of Langley, England; sister-in-law, Win Cable of Eastbourne, England; and brother-in-law, Peter Reynolds of Eastbourne, England.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Tom Tille; sister, Sheila Reynolds; and brother, Philip Cable.

Friends and family will be welcomed to the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg on Sun., Oct. 14, 2018 from 1-3 & 5-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Mon., Oct. 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.

Memorials may be made to Gibsonburg Volunteer Fire Department.
